Who am I?
Hey, I’m David. Gay, married, dad. I started A Queer POV: Friends, Loves, & Life because I’ve always been the guy who wants to skip the small talk. I want to know what’s really going on inside. I want to know what made you you. You know, the conversations that happen when someone finally says what they’ve been holding back out of fear of judgment. That’s where the real person lives. I wanted to do that from a queer perspective, because that’s who I am and how I see the world.
Look, I’ve been through it. Love that makes you feel invincible, loss that drops you to your knees, joy that comes out of nowhere, grief that won’t let go, doubt that keeps you up at night, and growth that sneaks up on you when you’re not looking. And here’s the thing: I know I’m not the only one.
This place I’m building? It’s my way of holding up a mirror to the lives we’re all living. A mirror I hold up to myself as well. Here’s the thing. Even at 62 I’m still learning about who I am. The messy, beautiful, complicated lives we build when we stop pretending and just show up as ourselves.
I believe every single person has a story worth hearing. And I believe that when we actually listen (like, really listen, not just wait for our turn to talk) something shifts. We find empathy. We find healing. Sometimes we even find a little piece of ourselves we didn’t know was missing.
